Space for didactics in the preschool teacher's growing assignment : "We struggle so much to keep all adults satisfied, and then we lose the children between the cracks"

Over the past years the role of the preschool teacher has grown to be the one who leads and carries the responsibility to develop the didactic work, according to the preschool curriculum. This is a phenomenological study, aiming to examine which obstacles and conditions preschool teachers experience in their didactic mission. 10 preschool teachers in Stockholm where interviewed. The findings are divided into three categories: (1) Gray zones between the preschool teacher’s and the principle’s responsibilities (2) “Not that I am the one in charge, but” – when the role of leading becomes a source of conflict (3) “We struggle so much to make all adults satisfied, and then we lose the children between the cracks” Ansvaret för barns undervisning ligger hos förskolläraren. Under de senaste åren har förskollärarens yrkesroll vuxit till att vara den som leder och har ansvar för att det didaktiska arbetet utvecklas mot läroplanens mål. Detta är en fenomenologisk studie som ämnar undersöka vilka hinder och förutsättningar förskollärare med lång erfarenhet upplever i sitt didaktiska uppdrag. Tio förskollärare i Stockholm intervjuades. Resultatet delades in i följande teman: (1) Gråzonen där förskollärarens ansvar slutar och rektorns tar vid, (2)”Inte så att man bestämmer men”- när ledarrollen blir ett tabu och källa till konflikt, (3)”Vi kämpar så mycket med att göra alla vuxna nöjda och då tappar vi barnen mellan stolarna”- när de viktigaste (barnen) hamnar i skymundan.
